Our Curriculum

At Johnson Road School, our curriculum is designed to provide a rich, engaging, and challenging learning experience for all students from Year 0 to Year 13. We are guided by the principles of the New Zealand Curriculum (NZC), fostering confident, connected, actively involved, lifelong learners.

New Zealand Curriculum Framework

The NZC forms the foundation of our teaching and learning. It sets out what students are expected to learn and provides a framework for schools to design their local curriculum. Key areas include:

  • Learning Areas: English, Mathematics and Statistics, Science, Social Sciences, Arts, Health and Physical Education, Technology, and Learning Languages (Te Reo Māori and other Pasifika languages).
  • Key Competencies: Thinking, Using language symbols and texts, Managing self, Relating to others, and Participating and contributing.
  • Principles: High expectations, Treaty of Waitangi, Cultural diversity, Inclusion, Learning to learn, Community engagement, Coherence, and Future focus.

We integrate these elements to create a holistic and culturally responsive curriculum that prepares students for success in a diverse and rapidly changing world.
